Triumph Speed Triple 1200 RR: Quick Take

Triumph has taken the naked hooligan Speed Triple 1200 RS, added carbon fiber and plastic, bolted on ridiculously low clip ons and rearset pegs, a single round headlight, race quality brakes and electronically smart suspension.  Triumph calls the result the Speed Triple 1200 RR and it is one wicked sportbike.  Given the invitation to ride one, I flew down to the outskirts of Triumph America’s headquarters in Atlanta, Georgia and took it for a spin.

A Ride on the Wild Side- Triumph’s Speed Triple 1200 RS

I first fell in love with Triumph’s Triple motorcycles when I owned a 1999 Sprint 955i ST some years back. The torque and pull in each gear, the howl of that three cylinder mill through the single right side pipe, and the sheer thrill of screaming around Road Atlanta, Talledega GP or down some lonesome country road at ungodly digits was addictive. That Sprint was my first true sportbike, having always been a cruiser or standard rider before, and it changed my life by opening up a whole new world to me of “Power, Performance and Handling”. I still enjoy cruisers, but my heart has turned. There’s no going back. I’m a “PPH” fan now. So it’s little wonder I salivated to get my hands on this latest iteration of Triumph’s Triple line.

Motorcycle Gear: REV’IT! Hyperspeed 2 Midseason Update

I have loved putting the REV’IT! Hyperspeed 2 race suit through it’s paces, other than testing crashability. Having a few race suits in my closet now, I have a solid base of comparison given my experience over the past few seasons. At this price point, I wouldn’t call this an entry level suit but when comparing to suits around the same dollar amount, I think REV’IT! has done a few things to make this suit stand out.

First Look: Triumph’s Speed 400 and Scrambler 400x

With nearly every other motorcycle brand in the world producing small displacement motorcycles and selling them by the millions, Triumph’s decision to finally enter the fray is long overdue. The two highest-selling categories in U.S. motorcycle sales, according to several brand reps we have contact with, are off-road/dual-sport/adventure, and small displacement street. For our purposes, we’ll define small displacement street as road motorcycles 500cc and smaller. And Triumph just announced a pair of entrants for the 2024 model year- The Speed 400, and Scrambler 400x.
It’s about time.

Through The Lens- Rob North’s Brit Triples

Camaraderie is contagious, so we stopped for a chat and to ask some questions about their entries. Geoff had noticed the “letterbox” style fairing on the nose of one of the bikes and upon further inspection he noticed that the 750cc four-stroke road racing bike had three cylinders. He complimented the group on what he assumed were beautiful replicas of a Rob North BSA Rocket 3 and a Triumph Trident. We knew that Rob North had motorcycles in the Barber Museum. That was when he was corrected by Chantelle who replied, “Those are the real thing and my dad, Rob North, is right there!”

The Daytona 200- America’s Festival of Speed

With the 80th running of the acclaimed Daytona 200 this year (weather permitting), we thought a dive into the archives to view the long and storied history of this legendary motorcycle race was in order. From it’s actual origins in Savannah, Georgia in 1932, to the sands of Daytona Beach, ultimately riding the high banks of the Daytona International Speedway, the Daytona 200 has attracted many of the top motorcycle racers in the world to come make their mark on the “World Center of Speed”.

Triumph Unveils The Trident 660 Triple

In a worldwide web premier, Triumph Motorcycles unveiled the all-new Trident 660 Triple, the roadster they’ve been hinting at since August. With a spectacular online introduction, Triumph rolled out the 2021 model, the newest entry into the brand’s lineup, and their smallest in the fleet. Targeted squarely at the middleweight “street fighter,” naked sport bike category currently populated with the likes of the Honda CB650R, Kawasaki Z650, and the Yamaha MT-07, Triumph just lit a stick of Trident dynamite and tossed it middle of the fray. Price-wise, the Trident should fall right in the middle of these, with MSRP looking to be around $7995-8120, depending on configuration, of which there are four at the moment on their website.
